First, a glossary (important = read it to understand this e-course fully):

Blog = an online diary that can be adapted for business purposes.

Post = an entry, article, piece of writing or message in your blog.

Dashboard = main menu or hub of a blog which provides access to the various elements.

WordPress.com = the recommended blog programme software provider I’m using for ‘free’ blogs.

Username = your ‘name’ you wish to be known as, and can be the main element of your blog’s URL.

Password = specially created by you to gain personal access to a blog.

Gravatar = your picture or logo that is used for recognition within WordPress or throughout the internet.

It’s good to invite contributors or authors to write for your blog. They can help with writing enough posts to maintain the consistency, quality and quantity of your blog. And your readers would certainly value a different perspective, topic or subject, and writing style to keep the interest going.

You can have as many contributors as you wish on your blog. You can keep complete control by being the only Administrator to see what’s been written and monitor comments, or you can share the responsibility.

First, your contributors need to register with WordPress to get a username, unless they’ve already got a WordPress blog. View my Creating a username e-course to find out how. You need to get the contributor to tell you the email address they used to get that username.

Then you go to your dashboard (via ‘Accessing my blog’):

Go down the sidebar to Users > Authors and Users:

And you’ll see yourself as the Administrator of this blog.

Now, under ‘Add User From Community’ there is a field for your contributor’s email address:

Fill in the correct details, choose which authority you wish to give your guest blogger, and click on ‘Add User’.

Your new contributor’s details will appear underneath yours, according to the hierarchy you’ve given them. See the contributors to my boss’s blog which I set up:

The extra information provided will also depend on how extensively they’ve filled in their details when they created their usernames, which includes a pictures or Gravatar.

Now each contributor can log in (see ‘Accessing you blog’) using their own usernames and passwords, to write their own posts (see Writing Posts) and make their contributions.

The other links in the ‘Users’ section allows you to check your own details = Users > My Profile:

And the next links shows my personal settings:

The grey area is blocking out my API key which is a personal code I will need to activate certain plug-ins and other applications in any other blogs you may create, in particular the Askimet plug-in.

And at the bottom there is the opportunity to change your password to safeguard against hackers, spam or to something more rememberable:
