Nice read. It goes to show how important proof-reading is – not only for spelling and grammatical mistakes, but for checking the content is actually understandable.

I’ve recently been working on some content, and it’s amazing what you miss after spending hours in front of the same article. Within 5 minutes of passing it to my colleague, they had spotted several glaring errors.

(Just reading through my comment now, making sure I haven’t made any obvious mistakes.)

Thanks John, you could have used the word jail instead! Funny how there’s two spellings for the same word.

Very true. Language is a strange beast, even English as used here and in America as you say. Yesterday I was writing a post and the spell checker didn’t recognise gaol which rather surprised me, but then I thought about my US readers and just changed it to prison.

One of the joys of writing is that it does get the grey matter (or even the gray matter) thinking about these things.

Hi Tracey, there is also an easier way of making all your posts as summaries with the more tag. Go to Settings > Reading and for the entry “For each article in a feed, show” select the ‘Summary’ radio button. Then all your posts will be shortened to the first few lines and the more link will automatically be added.

Thank you SO much for this – you’ve just stopped me pulling my hair out. Everyone else’s blog posts are so neat with their enticement paragraphs and their “continue reading” options and there was mine, just lots of long blog posts on a page… It was driving me crazy! Thank you for making such a difference… Even if it does mean I now have to go through all of my old posts and work out where to add my “more tag”!

As I said in my response to Jacqui, her website and blog were not WordPress, therefore I am unable to provide an answer to your problem. I have searched the new version of WordPress.com for a similar problem, but have found no incident to report.
