6 actions you need to do to your blog to make it big

what to do to your blog to make it big

A contributed post by Joseph Peake.

Many bloggers, whether they start out as a hobby blogger, have no idea what they are doing.

Or if they are someone intending to start a business, they may well have not considered how blogging could make them money.

But once you reach the point when offers start coming in, if you are willing to put in the time and take your blog seriously go make it big, you can begin to make some cash.

However, there’s a difference between making a small amount of pocket money from advertising, and being able to make it big to become one of the few bloggers that manage to make a full-time income from doing what they love.

If this is what you want to do, then you almost certainly can. Here is what your blog needs:

Develop a strong voice

When you start out, it’s easy to attempt to copy other bloggers and writers, especially if they have made it big. However, as time goes on, you should begin to discover your own voice so that you can be seen to write like ‘you’.

This is the special ingredient that will keep readers coming to your blog. Whether you have a solid niche, original ideas or are sharing recipes that have been done before; it will be your voice that sets you apart. Your readers will want to read your posts because it is you that writes them.

Spend time to make it big

If you want to be a successful blogger, just like anything else in life, you have to put in enough time and effort to make it big.

You need to focus on writing lots of content and promoting it, repurposing old content to present it to a different audience, changing designs for improvement and taking photos or finding new sources every single day.

To make it big you need to be willing to treat your blog like a business. If you want a full-time pay out, you need to work full-time hours.

You need to invest to make it big

One thing that often sets business blogs apart from hobby sites is how much  investment has been spent on them. Both in terms of time and money. If you want your blog to stand out, it’s a good idea to start reinvesting some of its income.

However, there’s no need to spend a fortune. Once your readership starts to grow you may consider paying for an email marketing service, a designer to help you create a strong brand (such as Creative Website Development), social media automation to save yourself time, and upgrades to premium plugins.

Obviously, much of this will depend on your own skill set. If you feel you can do it yourself, then go ahead, but make sure the result is of a professional standard.

Passion can get you a long way

Do you really believe in what you are writing about? If not, how can you expect others to?

It’s really important to write about something that you feel passionately about. It is this passion that will help you to find your voice and make it shine through your writing.

It will also help you to find new ideas that your readers will want to read, and to keep up your momentum to write regularly.

Remember to regularly update

It’s worth spending time every week to do some basic maintenance. Check your plugins to see if they up to date. Are they still the best ones for the job they are meant to do?

Next check for broken links. This is something that could get out of hand if left unchecked and will affect your Domain Authority.

It’s a very good idea to regularly backup your database. This is to safeguard your content should anything go wrong, so you can recover it again.

Finally spend time checking your page speed and optimisation. This is important if you want to make it big with your blog. Is there anything you need to do to improve it?

Engage to increase your visibility

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t necessarily need a huge following to start turning your blog into a business.

However, what you do need is a loyal and engaged readership. The best way to achieve this is to regularly communicate with them.

Send extra emails to your subscribers, offer newbies suitable advice and take the time to reply to comments and chat on social media. It is these small actions that will get you noticed and remembered, very important if you want to make it big.

And above all, enjoy yourself. Your blog is your little bit of space on the Internet, so make sure you love it. Otherwise your readers and followers won’t love it too.
