How to make your home office ergonomically correct

You don’t always get to work from a beautiful beach or admire the sunset from a tropical destination. However, this doesn’t mean you cannot turn your home office into an ergonomically correct wellness workplace which boosts your productivity and reduces your stress levels.
Got productivity problems?
Your office shouldn’t cause you pain, tension, stiffness, and aches. However, we all know this happens and it’s not pleasant.
According to American Family Physician, only 25%-30% of people who experience back pain seek medical help. Back pain is still one of the most common reasons people visit family physicians. This along with other problems associated with prolonged sitting are very common, but this shouldn’t be the case.
Do you wish to stop these problems and turn your home office into a comfortable place where you can focus and be productive? Then you have to make your office ergonomically correct.
Sitting at your desk should minimise the strain you put on your body and maintain a relaxed and neutral position. Here are some tips to help you out:
Choose the right chair
The ability to adjust your furniture is how to get rid of unnecessary pain and sit comfortably at your desk. It should adjust to your body shape and size, not the other way around.
Sitting in a chair specifically designed for a tall person when you’re short can only cause problems. The opposite also applies. Your office chair should be able to adjust its height for lumber, upper, and middle back support. It should also recline with ease and be wide enough to sit comfortably.
Choose the right desk
Most people use computers and laptops these days. However, in most cases, desks which are not ergonomically correct are still built for writing not typing.
This is the source of many problems since most people are forced to crouch in order to type, which leads to bad posture, neck tension, and many other problems. The ideal keyboard height is a few inches above the knees so make sure you test desks to see if they can accommodate your height.
On the other hand, if the desk is too high, you won’t be able to stay in a comfortable position. This problem is easy to fix with a negative slope where you can place your keyboard.
Tools which ergonomically correct offices
Since the goal is to keep your body in a neutral position and to be able to sit comfortably throughout the day, you should consider tools that can make things easier for you.
Your mouse should be close to your body when working, so a mousepad will ensure you always keep the mouse in the right position. You shouldn’t be looking up or down from your screen. The monitor should be straight in front of you, so use a desktop holder if necessary.
Still got back pain despite having an ergonomically correct office?
A massage cushion can ease the pain, relieve tension, and make you relaxed. Also, it is important to take breaks and move around once in a while to avoid stiffness.
Lastly, if you cannot adjust the height of your chair and your feet are not flat on the floor, you can use a footrest or a foot cushion to adjust your position.
Ergonomically correct workplace design influences wellbeing, performance and health, so even small changes can have a positive impact on your mood and inspiration.
