What you need to start a successful parenting blog
A guest post by Lucy Wyndham.
Parenting blogs have been around for some time, and at present there are millions of blogs offering parenting, budgeting, meal planning and health advice, as well as other topics related to mummy blogging.
Mums are also more likely to turn to the Internet for advice as statistics show that 63% of online mums will read blogs. If you’re thinking about creating a parenting blog, know that there’s more to blogging than posting compelling content and uploading pretty pictures. Your blog is much more than a dumping ground for your thoughts, especially if you want to make it a success.
How much do mummy bloggers really make?
Successful, and therefore popular, bloggers can make several thousands of pounds per month on their blogs. But keep in mind that this is not the norm.
According to a poll, the majority of mummy bloggers earn less than £76 a month on their sites. Only 1.1% of mummy bloggers report earning more than £3,800 a month.
However, money isn’t the top motivation for creating a blog. Often, many women start blogging to share their experiences, offer valuable advice, and let their voices be heard. To make your blog a success, try following these useful tips.
Find out why you want to start blogging
Before uploading your first post, you need to understand why you want to start blogging in the first place.
Is it to share recommendations of products or services? Or alternatively online shopping sites with cash backs or discounts? Do you want it to be a place to share funny stories or parenting hacks?
Whatever it is, find out why you want to start blogging. From there you can choose the subject matter for a more cohesive blog. True, you can write about anything under the sun, but you’re more likely to get noticed if you focus on one thing.
Do you want to focus on shopping hacks or parenting a child with learning difficulties? Do you want your blog to be funny or more earnest in tone? Choose your theme or style and stick with it.
Practice your writing skills
Just like dancing or playing an instrument, writing is a skill that needs to be practiced. The more you do it, the better you will become.
Think about the tone that you want to use and your personal writing style whenever you create a blog post. Your success will depend upon how your readers can relate to what you write about, and whether they are comfortable or have a connection with you.
And it’s worth taking the trouble to check your post for grammar and punctuation. These kinds of mistakes can distract your readers and discredit your content.
Be consistent with when you publish
To be a successful mummy blogger, you need to schedule when you post new content. This will help both you and those who read your blog.
Your posting schedule doesn’t have to be on a daily basis, once a week will do. If you decide to post weekly, pick a day and stick with it. Your readers will soon learn you always post new content on a Thursday. They will then make an effort to visit your blog on that particular day of the week.
And it’s not just your readers. The search engines will also lie in wait for your new posts on your chosen day, to index it as soon as it appears.
Are you ready to create a parenting blog?
Remember to keep in mind your purpose for starting your parenting blog, be true to yourself and your readers, and make sure to post consistently. You’ll soon be on your way to blogging success.
After you’ve followed these tips, you can begin to take steps to earn from your blog through affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and banner advertisements. However, you will need to accrue a reasonable amount of regular readers first to make this possible.
